The Green Deal
The Green Deal was introduced in January 2013 as a means to help households who do not qualify for grants to be able to afford energy saving home improvements.
The scheme is essentially a loan but instead of the property owner or tenant being liable for the repayments, they are taken from the savings from the improvements to the property. In other words, the loan is attached to the property and not the individual.
The golden rule of the Green Deal states that the repayments must never be more than the amount that is being saved on bills, so householders will never be out of pocket. There are also no up-front costs or payments made.
Even though the Government withdrew funding in July 2015, private companies stepped in to ensure that the Green Deal scheme continued to operate.
If you qualify for a grant but it does not cover the full amount, the Green Deal can be used to make up the shortfall. If you do not qualify for a grant, you can use the Green Deal to cover the entire cost of the boiler or heating system.
Who Qualifies For The Green Deal?
All home owners and private tenants can potentially qualify. It does not matter whether or not you receive benefits or how old you are.
The main criteria is that the potential energy bill savings must cover the loan repayments over the lifetime of the boiler or heating system.
It may be necessary to run a soft credit check to ensure that you have a good history of paying bills. It is a similar check to the one carried out when you take out a new mobile phone contract.

What if you don't qualify?
In the event that you do not qualify for the Green Deal, you can still get several quotes to pay for the installation of a new boiler or other heating system. By shopping around, you can save several hundred pounds on the cost.
How can EnergyLink help.
We can arrange for you to receive a free, no-obligation survey from a Green Deal approved installer. The surveyor will calculate whether or not the system qualifies. If it does not qualify, EnergyLink can arrange up to four quotes through one of our partner companies.
